BWSC BLAZERS Get Podium Results at Apex Zone Race!

Posted On: February 01, 2022 |
On Sunday January 30th, 45 Big White Ski Club (BWSC) athletes attained great results at the Nancy Greene South Zone Race hosted by the Apex Ski Club. Since this was the first race for the region since pre-Covid, it made this the FIRST RACE EVER for many of the kids attending.

The event was combined gender, best result of two runs, modified dual slalom race (g-lalom) for athletes ages 6-11. The weather cooperated, with mild temps and sunny skies, to allow for great snow conditions and happy young racers. BWSC filled the top of the podium in every age category!

Allen Kong (1st), Colton Leonard (2nd) and Miles Mason (3rd) all brought home medals as the youngest Big White athletes born 2015, while Isaac Ramsay, Sebastian Weber and Amelia Thomas also filled the podium for the 2014 age group. For the 2013 group Luke Forneris broke the 30 second marker bringing home a gold medal. Bowen Ritchie, McKinley Clement and Liam Trewartha filled the 2012 podium with gold, silver and bronze respectively.

In the U12 category, combined ages of 2011 and 2010, was a smaller group. Ella Thomas had the fastest time in the entire race at 25.71 seconds while her teammate Annabel Verner brought home the silver medal. For the U12 men, Benjamin Barbaza ranked 1st and Alasdair Barton made 2nd.

"Thanks to Apex Race Club, the Apex Ski Resort and all the great volunteers for welcoming us back to racing. The kids had a blast!" stated Trevor Haaheim, BWSC Program Director.
