Big White donates $17,135 to Powderhounds Adaptive Snowsports program in support of People in Motion.

Big White Ski Resort is thrilled to announce a charitable contribution of $17,135 to the Powderhounds Adaptative Snowsports Program, marking a significant step in supporting the development and enhancement of opportunities for individuals with disabilities or challenges in snow sports at Big White.

This donation was made possible from the proceeds of the highly anticipated annual TELUS Kelowna Cup on February 24th, 2024 – a beloved tradition at the ski resort. The TELUS Kelowna Cup has been a cornerstone event at Big White Ski Resort since its inception in 2015, and it has consistently rallied support for worthy causes. Over the years, the event has raised a total of $190,000, embodying the spirit of community and giving back.

Participants collected their RFID timing chips in the Village Centre until 9:30am. In collaboration with TELUS, Big White handed out free breakfast sandwiches to fuel the athletes. Racers then made their way up to the course in TELUS Park between 10:00am until 3:00pm where they had been given two runs down the track. Operating on the principle of time duplication, it's not all about being the fastest, participants aimed to get the closest match to their first runs time. The “Best Dressed” award was also on many of the participants minds this year as we saw superhero’s fly down the course, a family of monkey’s and banana’s racing down, and we learnt that sharks can ski! Throughout the day athletes and guests were able to commemorate their day by taking a photo in the TELUS x Big White Photo Booth, receive a complementary cupcake, or relax by the fire near the TELUS Igloo.

Thanks to the unwavering support of participants, volunteers, and the continued sponsorship of TELUS, the TELUS Kelowna Cup raised an impressive $22,050 for the Powderhounds Adaptive Snowsports program this year. Additionally, Big White Ski Resort matched all supplementary donations from the event, doubling the impact of contributions up to $10,000. This infusion of funds will greatly enhance the program's capacity to serve the community.

Big White Ski Resort extends sincere gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the TELUS Kelowna Cup. Through collective efforts, we are fostering a more inclusive and supportive community in the Okanagan, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
