The film opens with Peter Schumann, son of Des Schumann, reflecting on the philosophy that drives Big White today: "We always, only ever had one plan, and that was to keep moving forward." This idea of perseverance and innovation sets the tone for the inspiring stories that follow, as pioneers share their memories of the mountain’s earliest days. Tales of clearing trails, building lifts, and opening the resort’s first runs highlight the dedication and resilience of those who turned a vision into reality.

Michael J. Ballingall’s engaging narration guides viewers through a rich history filled with personal anecdotes and community milestones. Founders Cliff Serwa and Doug Mervyn share vivid accounts of the challenges they faced, from working around the clock to clear land to battling freezing temperatures while setting concrete. These stories are brought to life with vintage footage, giving audiences a glimpse of the rugged beginnings that laid the foundation for the thriving resort we see today.

As the narrative unfolds, Keep Moving Forward celebrates the evolution of Big White. From the addition of state-of-the-art lifts and expanded terrain to its reputation for "champagne powder" snow, the film highlights the resort’s growth into an international destination. Yet, as Ballingall emphasizes, it’s the people who make Big White truly special. Whether it’s young Rhonda standing on apple juice cans to work the cash register or ski instructors crafting innovative teaching techniques, the film honours the collective effort that has sustained Big White’s legacy.

The film also highlights the familial spirit that defines the resort. Generations of families have found their home on Big White’s slopes, creating memories and traditions that span decades. Whether it’s grandparents teaching their grandchildren to ski or friends racing down iconic runs, Big White remains a place where people connect through their love of the mountains.

As CEO Peter Plimmer reflects in the film, the resort’s mission has always been to ensure skiers and snowboarders feel welcome, safe, and happy. This ethos has guided Big White through 60 years of change and growth, cementing its status as Canada’s favourite family resort.

Keep Moving Forward is more than a celebration of Big White’s past—it’s a call to embrace the future with the same spirit of adventure and dedication that has brought the resort to where it is today. Here’s to 60 years of unforgettable memories—and many more to come!
