Big White Ski Resort Raises $5,550 in Support of KGH Foundation's Day of Giving Fundraiser

This fundraising initiative amassed a grand total of $794,606.36, including Big White Ski Resort's contribution. As a locally family owned and operated resort, the KGH Foundation's "Closer to Home than you Think" initiative is aligned with Big White's enthusiasm towards giving back to the local community.

Wednesday, May 17th, marked a remarkable day of community action supporting local healthcare services. The Day of Giving is a rallying call for individuals and organizations to bolster healthcare provision, ensuring world-class facilities and care remain a local reality. Previous years have seen funds directed towards vital healthcare areas including stroke care, advanced rhythm heart services, JoeAnna's House, and mental health care.

This year, the focus shifted towards diagnostic imaging, specifically aiming to raise funds for a state-of-the-art 3T MRI machine. This drive forms part of the 'Closer to home than you think' campaign, a larger initiative aiming at healthcare system transformation. A 3T MRI machine offers twice the magnetic strength of a standard 1.5T MRI, giving radiologists access to more detailed images and supporting more accurate diagnosis and treatment plans.

The generosity of Kelowna's citizens was in full display during the fundraiser. Until midnight on the Day of Giving, local families matched every donated dollar, up to $425,000. This magnified impact of giving exemplifies the spirit of Kelowna and the local commitment to world-class healthcare.

Thanks to the fundraising efforts of organizations like Big White Ski Resort and the generosity of individual donors, the KGH Foundation is closer to its $5 million target for the acquisition of the additional 3T MRI machine. Once operational, it will be the only 3T MRI in the interior, revolutionizing diagnostic imaging capabilities in the region.

Big White Ski Resort is proud to partner with the KGH Foundation and five other local businesses to raise money in support of 7th annual “Day of Giving” on May 17!

We’re asking you to join us in fundraising for this important local cause, and kicking off the campaign with a $2,500 gift! Join us and a number of other local partners as we raise funds for the hospital to purchase a state-of-the-art piece of life saving equipment - a 3T MRI.

The purchase of this 3T MRI is part of the KGH Foundation’s larger 'Closer to home than you think' campaign for health care system transformation.

Diagnostic imaging saves lives. If you or a loved one has ever faced a medical emergency, you know, the answers to so many questions lie deep in the body. Diagnostic imaging is vital.

MRI utilizes powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to capture images of the body. A 3T MRI machine delivers twice the magnetic strength of a standard 1.5T MRI giving radiologists enhanced and more detailed images.

The province has approved funding for the acquisition of a new 1.5T MRI for KGH (replacing the hospital’s 20-year old machine). Recognizing the significant benefits of the faster 3T machine, the KGH Foundation is raising the $5 million needed to acquire the additional unit and help build the infrastructure to house it. It would be the only 3T MRI in the interior.
