Spectator's Guide to Spartan Trifecta Weekend at Big White

Witness one of the most intense and thrilling endurance challenges on the planet—the Spartan Trifecta Weekend at Big White!

On Saturday, August 24, and Sunday, August 25, elite athletes and adventure seekers from across the globe will converge at Big White Ski Resort to tackle Spartan's ultimate test. Whether you're a racer, a spectator, or a volunteer, this guide will help you make the most out of your weekend experience. 

Race Overview: The Spartan Trifecta weekend features several race types designed to challenge participants at different levels: 

  • Sprint: A 5K race with 20+ obstacles, perfect for beginners. 
  • Super: A 10K race with 25+ obstacles, demanding greater endurance and grit. 
  • Beast: A 21K race with 30+ obstacles designed for the toughest competitors. 
  • Ultra: A 50K race with 60+ obstacles, the ultimate test of endurance and strength. 
  • Kids Race: Shorter, age-appropriate courses for younger participants, offering a family-friendly introduction to Spartan Racing.

Don’t want to break a sweat, but still want to be a part of the action? You're in luck! 

There will be lots of fantastic vantage points to experience all the excitement from the sidelines.

Spectator Access: For spectators, the Spartan event at Big White provides several prime viewing spots to catch all the action: 

  • Viewing Areas: The event offers several designated spectator zones where you can watch the action up close. Ideal places include the starting line, finishing area, and key obstacles. 
  • Spectator Passes: No passes are required, so explore the event freely.  For easy access to the alpine hiking trails a $15 Sightseeing Lift Pass can be purchased at the Ticket Office or online. 
  • Course Maps: These are available at the venue for easy navigation. 

What to Bring: To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, here are some essentials: 

  • Weather-Appropriate Clothing: Big White is known for its variable mountain weather. Dress in layers and bring a waterproof jacket and sturdy footwear. 
  • Binoculars: To get a closer view of the action from a distance. 
  • Camera/Smartphone: Capture memorable moments but be mindful of staying clear of the course. 
  • Snacks and Water: Although there will be food vendors on-site, bringing your own snacks and water can be convenient. 
  • Seating: Enhance your experience by bringing portable chairs or blankets, ensuring comfort during the event's downtime. 

Facilities and Amenities: Big White ensures spectators have everything they need, with facilities available throughout the venue, both in Happy Valley and the Village Centre: 

  • Food & Drinks: Numerous food vendors and resort restaurants will be open. Check out all resort restaurants here
  • Restrooms: Portable toilets and permanent facilities are available throughout the venue and the resort. 
  • Merchandise: Grab official Spartan gear available at the souvenir tent to commemorate your visit. 
  • First Aid: Medical tent is located at the Start/Finish area along with roaming mobile teams at  strategic locations around the course for both participants and spectators in case of emergencies.
  • Gondola Hours: Lara’s Gondola will run from 7 am – 7 pm on Saturday and 7 am – 5 pm on Sunday. Check resort operation hours here

Getting to Big White: 

  • Parking: Arrive early to secure a spot. The Happy Valley Parking Lot will likely be at full capacity. Resort guests should utilize roadside parking throughout the Village.

Impacted Hiking Trails: Please be aware that certain trails will have increased traffic due to the Spartan Race. Kindly share the trails responsibly and be mindful of other users. Affected trails include:

  • Alpine Meadows 
  • Rhonda Lake Circuit 
  • Lower Peak Trail 
  • Lower Falcon Ridge to the Village
