Your Guide to Freeride Days Mountain Bike Festival 2024

Posted On: August 02, 2024 |
Prepare yourself for the ultimate adrenaline rush at the annual Freeride Days Mountain Bike Festival, where the most extreme mountain bikers and die-hard fans unite for three electrifying days of high-octane action and summer mountain madness.

From August 8 -10, the Big White Slopestyle Centre will be the epicenter of world-class biking talent.

Witness the FMB Gold Invitational Slopestyle hosted by Tom van Steenbergen, where elite riders defy gravity on a massive Slopestyle Course. Marvel at the young prodigies in the Grom Slopestyle Event, be captivated by the FMB Bronze Women’s Slopestyle kicking off Friday night and hold your breath through the jaw-dropping Best Trick and Whip Off Competitions.

Here is your essential guide to experiencing every heart-stopping moment:

1. Getting to Big White
Enjoy a 45-minute, scenic drive from Kelowna up to Big White by following Highway 33 until you hit Big White Road. Once you arrive, there is free parking in Happy Valley and the main Village. The village area is expected to be busy, so if you are game, make the trip by foot via Happy Valley Way. It's the most direct way to get to the village and will take you about 10 minutes.

2. What to Bring/Wear
It’s always about 6-10 degrees cooler at Big White compared to Kelowna, so dress appropriately! Be sure to bring lots of water, sunscreen, and bug spray, and to make your viewing more comfortable, a folding chair!

3. Event Schedule
The Happy Valley venue opens at 11 am each day, with DJ music, a beer garden, and food trucks available throughout the event. On Thursday, August 8, the festivities kick off with the Bronze Men’s event at 6 pm. Friday, August 9, features the Grom event at 6 pm, followed by the FMB Bronze Women’s event at 7 pm. The evening culminates with the Whip Off and Best Trick competitions starting at 7:30 pm, accompanied by DJ Vinyl Ritchie and delicious offerings from food trucks. Finally, on Saturday, August 10, the event reaches its peak with the FMB Gold Invitational Slopestyle at 5pm and concludes with an Award Ceremony. Get the full event schedule here.

4. Site Map
The Slopestyle Centre is in Happy Valley, where Adventure Park activities are in the winter. Enjoy a merchandise and market expo, live DJs, and a food and beverage area during and after the freeride events.

5. Where to Stay
Accommodation is available at the Inn at Big White from $156 per night (taxes & service fees additional) from Wednesday, August 7 to Sunday, August 11. The Inn at Big White is in the heart of the village, offering excellent resort amenity access. The hotel features an outdoor pool, hot tub, fitness room, and games room, plus complimentary underground parking and valet bike storage. Reservations can be made online here.

If you are planning on pulling up your RV for the weekend, be sure to book an RV spot in Happy Valley by calling 250-491-6111 or emailing resortservices@bigwhite.com.

6. Where to Eat
Need to fuel up? There will be Food Trucks at the venue from 11 am each day of the event. Food trucks include Burger Boss (Thursday – Saturday), The Bone Yard BBQ and Grilling Co (Friday & Saturday), and The Lobster Pot (Friday & Saturday). Or, head up to the Village and enjoy an ice-cold pint and burger on The Woods' new and improved outdoor patio, cool off with an ice cream at The Bullwheel, grab a quick bite and enjoy international inspired fare at The Globe, and unwind after an adventure-filled day at everyone’s favorite pub - Snowshoe Sam’s. Craving sushi? Check out Sasquatch Sushi in Stonebridge. If you’re planning on packing your own lunch, there are plenty of picnic tables and designated eating areas throughout the resort. Please be sure to pack away everything you bring and use the garbage and recycling cans available in busy areas. Discover all the food options open in the village here.

7. Other Activities
Check out what else the resort has to offer! The lift-accessible Bike Park will remain open all weekend, with the Bullet Chair running at 10 am each morning from Thursday to Sunday. Access the hiking trails by foot, or by purchasing a Sightseeing Chairlift Ride ticket up to Rhonda Lake and make your way back to the Village. Along the way, you’ll spot wildlife, wildflowers, and fairy doors!

Don’t miss out on the excitement! Mark your calendars, prepare your crew, and get ready for an unforgettable weekend at the Freeride Days Mountain Bike Festival! For more details and updates, visit the official Freeride Days event page.
